형수 6 An Elder Brother's Wife 6

형수님이 한달에 한번 남편 동료들과 부부 모임을 할 때, 꼭 와서 도와주는 고향 동생이 있다.

When my elder brother's wife had done the couple meeting with the colleagues of her husband, surely the hometown younger sister had helped.

친동생은 아니지만, 형수님을 친언니처럼 무척이나 좋아하고 따르는 고향의 후배이다.

She was not her real sister, but she liked & followed my elder brother's wife so much.

형수님처럼 서울로 시집을 왔고 명동에서 오징어 순대와 감자만두를 파는 작은 식당을 운영하고 있다.

Like my elder brother's wife, the hometown sister got married into Seoul, she operated a small restaurant to cook Squid Sundae & Potato Dumplings at Myungdong.

형수님께서 잔치를 할 때는 꼭 와서 오징어 순대라든지 보쌈이라든지 여러가지 음식을 만들때 도와주는 고향 동생이다.

She had helped surely when my elder brother's wife had taken a party.

She had cooked Squid Sundae, Bossam, etc. with my elder brother's wife.

형수는 고향 동생을 만나서 음식을 같이 만들면서 고향 소식을 듣고 고향 친구들 소식을 전해 듣는게 큰 행복이라고 하셨다.

My elder brother's wife told to me, "I am happy very much because I meet her & hear my hometown news through her.".

잔치 후에는 고향 동생을 집에서 재우고 용돈을 두둑히 챙겨주면서 보내곤 하셨다.

After the party, surely my elder brother's wife had slept with the hometown sister, sent to give much pocket money to her.

어쩌면 잔치를 하는 것보다도 고향 후배를 만나는 기쁨이 더 크다고 내게 말한적이 있다.

Perhaps, my elder brother's wife prefered to meet the hometown junior than doing the party.

자주 고향을 못가곤 하니까 형수는 강원도 속초의 고향 소식을 잔칫날 고향 동생을 통해 듣는 것이 전부였던 것 같다.

Because my elder brother's wife could not go her hometown often, she could not help hearing the hometown, Sokcho news through the hometown sister at the party day once by a month.

그리고 명동의 번화한 거리에서 식당을 하기 때문에 서울에 살지만 속초가 고향인 사람들이 고향음식에 대한 향수를 달래러 오징어 순대나 감자 만두를 먹으러오곤 한다는 것이다.

Because the hometown sister operated the restaurant at the prosperous street of Myungdong, sane hometown peoples had come here often to be comforted into the hometown food, for example, Squid Sundae or Potato Dumplings the mind to miss their hometown, Sokcho.

그래서 고향 동생은 속초의 고향 소식을 누구보다도 빨리 전해듣는다고 한다.

More soonly than anyone, the hometown sister heard from the customers Sokcho's hometown news.

어릴적 아무것도 모르던 시절에 산으로 들로 같이 놀러나갔던 친구들!

In a naive & young time, Friends who went out to the mountains or the fields!

고향 동생처럼 이른바 죽마고우는 나이가 들어 머리가 희끗희끗해진 할머니가 되어서도 너무나 행복해지는 만남인 것이다.

Like the hometown sister, so called, meeting a childhood friend was so much happy meeting although my elder brother's wife hair was getting white.

형수님이 가장 기쁘고 표정이 밝아보일 때는 고향 소식을 들을 때나 고향 동생을 만날 때인 것 같다.

When my elder brother's wife looked mostly bright & glad, seemed when she heard hometown news or meeting the hometown sister.

나는 갑자기 형수님을 모시고 속초에서 다만 며칠이라도 속초를 여행하고 와야겠다는 그런 생각이 문득 들었다.

Suddenly I was happened to think that I & my elder brother's wife would trip Sokcho just only several days.

"저기 형수님 제가 형수님 모시고 형수님 고향인 속초를 여행하면 어떨까요?"

"Well...My elder brother's wife!

Will we trip Sokcho?"

형수님께서는 갑자기 볼이 발그레해지셨다.

She blushed suddenly.

"저야 좋지만 아무래도 제 남편의 허락을 받아야 될 것 같은데요."

"It's ok! But my husband shall accept it."

"그건 걱정 마세요.

형수님

제가 형님께 잘 말씀드릴께요."

"No problem!

Don't worry!

I will tell my brother well!"

"정말 그래주실래요?"

"Really?"

형수님은 기쁨과 행복감을 표정에서 감출 수 없었다.

She could not cover her happiness from her look.

'이렇게 좋아하시는데 나는 왜 지난 수십년간 단 한번도 생각을 못했을까?'

'Although she likes so much this, why haven't I think to go Sokcho over the past decades?'
