AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND STUDY PLAY
Chul-Soo Park
It gives me a great pleasure to introduce myself to you. I was born on September 24, 1966,
in Seoul, the youngest son of four children. I have two brothers and one sister. Under the warm care of my parents, who are devout Christians, I have been educated to love my neighbors as myself and to be obedient to God.
Since my childhood, 1 have been greatly interested in electronic and electrical goods. I used
to break up a TV set and other electronic goods so often that I was punished by my parents many times. During my secondary school years, I had a special interest in, and an aptitude for, Math and Physics, Thanks to my serious attention to those subjects, I attained outstanding grades in those classes .
In line with my aptitude, I majored in Electronic Engineering at Hapdong University In
college, I concentrated my efforts on my major subjects, especially in the field of Computer
Engineering. As for my extracurricular activities, I joined our school's Body Building Club and the CCC(Campus Crusade for Christ). I actively participated in those club activities.
While serving as Manager of the Body Building Club, I acquired a sense of responsibility and leadership skills. In addition, I made a trip around the whole country, riding a bicycle during my college days.
When I was a Junior in college, I enlisted in the ROK Air Force to fulfill my military
obligation. I served in its Signal Corps for about two and a half years. After being
discharged, I returned to college and studied English very hard, let alone my major subjects.
To ensure a good command of spoken and written English, I attended a private language school in Seoul and watched news and dramas on AFKN(The American Forces Korea Network) TV.
In my Senior year, I passed an employment exam conducted by Kangnam Electronic
Company and received six-month technical training In japan . Through that training course, 1 gained valuable knowledge and techniques of Computer Hardware-computer heads, discs and magnetic recording methods-in the laboratory of the Japanese JVC Company, My six-month research study in Japan made me open my eyes to the bigger world of Computer Engineering.
There, I attained a reasonable command of Japanese in speaking and was impressed by their
professionalism, their pursuit of perfection and their sense of coexistence and coprosperity
between labor and management. Returning to Korea, I was posted to work in the Dept. of
Research and Development. I conducted research on Magnetic Recording .
Now, I have great interest in Al(Artificial Intelligence) and Microprocessor and want to do
further research in those fields. However, to my disappointment, I feel that I am tacking in
really necessary knowledge of those fields, Thus, to be an able and efficient computer engineer equipped with up-to-date knowledge of computer engineering, I need to study further in your graduate school under the direction of your eminent professors .
I know your school is well-known for having excellent academic facilities as well as
outstanding faculty members. In the master's program, I will focus my attention on the study of Al(Artificial Intelligence) , especially in the area of Robotics, Theorem Proving and Natural Language Processing. Of course, I plan to take a number of computer engineering courses to make myself qualified to carry out my advanced studies.
I would appreciate your advice regarding my study plan at your graduate school.
Thank you for your attention to this statement.
