Seongsu8

어느날 성수는 내게 저녁 늦게 전화를 했다.

One day, Seongsu called me at late evening.

그러면서 나와같이 곱창전골 집에 가서 소주를 하자는 것이다.

He said, "Let's eat Gobchangjeongol with Soju!".

나는 그와 친했기 때문에 흔쾌히 수락을 했다.

I accepted cheerfully his asking because I was familiar with him.

그리고, 아내의 동의를 얻고 차를 끌고 곱창 전골 집을 갔다.

And I asked my wife to meet him, I met him.

그는 곱창 전골과 소주를 두병 시켜놓고서 내게 자신의 성장환경에 대해 얘기를 했다. 

Seongsu talked to me about his Growing Environment there.

우리는 거리낄 것이 없는 사이였다.

We could not talk nothing.

그의 성씨는 이씨였다.

His family name was 'Lee'.

그는 비교적 넉넉한 집안의 양자로 입양이 되었던 것이다.

He was adopted as the son of a rich family from an orphanage.

나처럼 고아원 출신인 것이다.

He was an orphan like me.

그런데, 그에게는 아직까지도 밤에 악몽을 꾸면서 깨어나곤 하는 어두운 기억이 있었다.

But there was the sad remembrances for him to dream nightmare from time to time.

그것은 바로 양아버지가 양어머니를 자주 폭행했다는 사실이다.

Because His father-in-law hit his mother-in-law often.

그 폭행은 때로는 매우 지능적이어서  때로는 음악을 크게 틀어놓고 자신도 모르게 방문을 잠가놓고 폭행을 하였다.

It was very intellectual method so that he could not know it at all for a long time.

그의 양아버지도 정신과 의사였다.

His father-in-law was a psychiatrist too.

그의 양모는 직업은 없었지만, 워낙 친정집이 부자여서, 양아버지는 친정집의 돈에 얹혀사는 형편이었다.

His mother-in-law was not her job, but her family was so rich so that his father-in-law depended on economic to his wife's family.

그는 도박에 빠져있었고 자신의 월급을 압류당해서 거의 뺏기기 일쑤였다.

His father-in-law was falling in gamble, his salary had been seized almostly.

그러나, 그의 아내는 친정집의 원조로 먹고 사는 것은 늘 넉넉했었다.

But his wife's family helped in economic accordingly Seongsu could live rich.

그의 양아버지는  그런 열등감 때문에 자신의 아내를 종종 폭행했던 것이다.

His father-in-law hit his wife often because of his complex.

특히 의사의 지식으로 겉으로는 드러나지 않는 폭행을 일삼았다고 했다.

Specially, he hit her stealthy parts into doctor's knowledges.

옷을 입으면 가릴 수 있는 곳들을 폭행했다는 것이다.

Namely, he had hit the covered parts of hers.

하루는 그가 핸드폰의 카메라를 방 안의 옷장 사이에 놓고 몰래 녹화를 했다는 것이다.

One day, Seongsu recorded the violent scene into his cell phone.

옷장 서랍과 서랍 사이에 핸드폰을 놓고 스카치 테이프로 붙였다는 것이다.

거의 일정한 시간에 폭행을 하기 때문에 녹화가 가능했었다고 한다.

Because his father-in-law had hit his wife in regularly.

성수는 내게 녹화 장면을 지금도 갖고 있다면서 보여주었다.

Seonsu had the recording still.

He showed it to me.

나는 정말 내 눈을 의심했다.

I was doubtful my eyes really.

여자의 유방이나 엉덩이를 담배불로 지지기도하고 카터칼로 상처를 내기도 하였다.

There were the scenes to burn or hurt her breasts or hips by tabacco fire or a cutter knife.

이것이 진정 점잖은 의사의 모습이란말인가?

'How can he do like this?

Is this the doctor's nobility?'

성수는 그때 이후로 아무도 믿지 않게 되었고, 사람을 분석하게 되었다는 것이다.

After that, Seongsu could believe nobody, And he was used to analyze peoples.

그리고, 그는 양아버처럼 똑같은 정신과 의사가 되었다.

He became an psychiatrist like his father-in-law.

마치 그가 예전에 내게  했던 말처럼 내 병을 고치기 위해서...

As if he had said to me in old time, "To cure my diseases!".
